The Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) is collaborating with World Bank Assisted Third National FADAMA Development Project (FADAMA III AF) for a two-week training for Graduate Unemployed Youths and Women.
The event which was flagged off at the Caverton Lecture Theatre, Main Campus on Monday, July 17, 2017 will positively affect the economy and quality of life of Nigerians.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, FAS, congratulated the 300 selected participants and encouraged them to learn and use the skills acquired as a source of generating income as well as to be independent.
Prof. Akanji called on the participants to take maximum advantage of the facilities on Campus while urging them to be part of Nigeria’s solutions and not the problem, considering the number of those roaming the street without a job and the number of those applied for the training.
The Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Oluwole Morenikeji disclosed that the institution is an empowerment driven University with capable personnel.
The DVC further admonished them to adhere to the rules and regulations of the University.
The Dean, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), Prof. Rueben Kolo in his welcome address, described the training as timely, adding that it is coming at a time when Nigerian government and people are determined to fight recession through agriculture and other business enterprises.
According to Prof Kolo, the training will help the unemployed youths and women to be self-reliant, employers of labour and provide food security for the country. He disclosed that fishing, cropping, animal husbandry, processing of farm produce, among others would be taught.
Prof. Kolo urged the trainees to participate actively so as to acquire practical knowledge in which the programme is meant to achieve.
In his vote of thanks, the former Dean of the School, Prof. Kpotun Muhammed Baba thanked FADAMA for enabling the University perform one of its mandates of community service.
He commended the University Management for their invaluable support and encouragement for the training.
