On June 15, 2017, the 5th convocation ceremony for the 2017 (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) class of Nile University of Nigeria took place to a packed audience at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
During the ceremony, Honorary Doctorate degrees (Honoris Causa) were conferred on the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), and Hajiya Dr. Mariya Sanusi Dantata, for their exemplary contributions to the society and Nigeria as a whole.
The Vice Chancellor of Nile University, Prof. Dr. Huseyin Sert, addressed the great strides made by the University toward bringing the institution and the community closer together.
"As we try to close the gap between Town and Gown, we have had series of international conferences held each year e.g. ICSSL— International Conference on Social Science and Law, IFCF— International Friendship and Cultural Festival, ETF— Education Trade Fair etc., thus bringing together global leaders, bureaucrats, businessmen, foreign mission representatives, top industry executives and students, to focus on the best practices needed for the development of Social Sciences and Law in order to enhance its practical applicability to the development of our social, economic, political and moral wellbeing.”
The Vice chancellor also took the opportunity to stress the importance of balancing work and socialization toward providing the complete education for students. As evidence of this, he pointed to the huge effort being made to ensure that Nile University hosts the 2017 Nigeria Private Universities Game (NPUGA), billed for later this year.
According him, the university in conjunction with National University Commission (NUC) now accepts deported students from distressed universities in Turkey adding that they are granted generous discounts in tuition fees.
A total of 270 graduates (99 Undergraduates and 171 Postgraduates) had degrees conferred upon them before an excited audience.
The overall best graduating student was Zainab Yakubu Lado (B.Sc. Biology) who emerged with a GPA of 4.95, followed by Abdulsamad Mustapha (B.Sc. Political Science & International Relations) who graduated with a 4.89 GPA. He was followed closely by Olamide Oyinkansola Aitalegbe, also from the Political Science & International Relations department with a GPA of 4.84.
As the graduands stepped off the dais for the final time to meet their eagerly awaiting family and friends, signaling the end of one journey and the start of another, they would do well to abide by the Vice Chancellor’s words.
"if you are unsure of a course of action, do not attempt it. Your doubt and hesitation will infect your execution. Timidity is dangerous: Better enter with boldness. Any mistakes you commit through audacity are easily corrected with more audacity. Everyone admires the bold; no one honours the timid.”Labels: Campus News
